greetings from New Jersey
« on: April 03, 2018, 11:38:47 am »
Hello everyone,  glad to be part of the group.  I am going into my 4th year of bee keeping and had 11 hives going into this winter.  Lost two, one because of mites and the cold, the other because the queen died.  My goal is to eventually have 20 hives.  Looks like there is good information here.  thanks for having me.

Glad you found us. We like to have fun here, we are a smaller group, more like an extended family. You will find plenty of help available with this bunch. ;)

Welcome from the other side of the continent. Bees act the same no matter where they are kept.

Hi Flint 1.  I think you'll find 20 hives to be a comfortable number to handle. Most of my years with bees (since 1972) that's the number of hives I kept, as a hobby.  Now, as the years creep up on me, I've reduced my holdings to around 6-7, which leaves me with plenty of unused equipment, most of which I've passed on to my  grandson, who has gone into beekeeping professionally (keeping well over 200 hives).

In returning to bees, did you "reactivate"dormant equipment or did you start over from scratch?
Hope you enjoy your participation in the forum and find the group to be beneficial and to your liking.   :welcome:

thank you everyone for the warm welcome.  I use the name flint1, because I use to compete with flintlock rifles and use to reenact at events called a Rendezvous.  It was a ton of fun.  I have two apiary locations.  one is about 3 miles away, the other maybe 12, and hope to keep 10 hives at each location.  Maybe more if I stop blundering through each year.  I never left bee keeping just took a basic course and jumped in with both feet.
 thanks again.
