Queen introduction
« on: August 16, 2014, 05:53:40 pm »
How long should i leave a new queen in an introduction cage ? This is a brand new queen from my mating castle moved to a nuc with bees shaken off of frames from a different hive. I did spray sugar water with pro health to help mask the smell of a new queen and old queen.

Opinion only..... Minimum 4 days, maximum 7 days.

I would treat it the same.

The very same, unless you are changing breeds. IE: Replacing an Italian queen with a Russian. Then the time is longer.

Agreed.. Just wanted to remind you a package will usually have a queen cage installed and be in transit at least two days before you get it, install them and pull the candy side cork.  I have found that its around three days for them to eat through the candy if you do not poke an extra hole through it.
I am sure you know that, just thought I would point it out again to make sure.
