Spotted on the way to one of my yards a couple days ago. Couldn't believe how close I got.

Is that a snowy that hasn't turned yet?
-
Could be. He/She was big, couldn't help but see it! There are tons of hawks and eagles here but I haven't seen too many owls. The big eagle fest will be happening in a couple of weeks or so, when 100's of them show up at Sheffield Mills.

Beautiful.
-
I would love to see the big eagles, 100's of them? Man! what a sight that would be

Ya better come soon, the eagle watch is only 2 or 3 weeks away! (15 minutes down the road).

OMG! If I was foot loose and fancy free.. I would hop a plane and Be There!

Running down the river in the pontoon (RiverRat) we usually see a few eagles.. Twenty years ago there were none to see thanks to the pesticides etc that were in common use.. It always lifts ones spirits to see them here again.

We still have problems up here. Not pesticides so much as lead poisoning. They are actually thinking (wildlife groups) of helping cover hunter's costs to convert to different ammo to help defray the higher cost.
-
Have they shown up yet? What an awesome sight that would be!
-
They are starting to show up. We always have eagles around, but you start to notice when they are more than 2 per tree!
-
I would give anything to be there to see that Perry. That is an Awesome!!
-
Pretty amazing alright. Like grizzlies, when there is plenty of food (salmon) they fish alongside one another without too much fighting.
Sort of like family after a big turkey dinner. ;D
-
Perry, the video says that a farmer leaves food out for the eagles. What is the food? Fish?
-
There are numerous chicken (meat bird) barns in the valley. They freeze and save the carcasses that don't make it to market and then set them out during the 2 weeks the birds show up.
I just saw this on the net from back out in BC where we used to live. It seems a composting facility there has the same "problem". :D
It is posted on CBC twitter, I don't know how to link it so I just grabbed the pic.

Helped my father (Ornithologist at NIU) snare Bald Eagles and band them in Savannah IL when around 8 years old for the Government. Will never forget watching a grad student get one too close to his face.... Had him an eagle beak piercing and boy did he holler! We got him loose and he kept right on working. We laid carp on a 4 x 8 plywood sheet with dozens of snares made from braded fishing line. Worked good....
