Bottom board?

(1/2) > >>

tedh:
A friend stopped by yesterday morning to pick up a nuc, he's a new beekeeper.  We slid the nuc into the topper on his truck and sat talking bees for a while. Anyway, he had some beeware in his truck and i was "demonstrating" a bit when i got to looking at his bottom board.  The BB's I've seen have all had 3/4 inch rails.  This one had 3/8 inch rails. Sup with that? Ted

Edit to add:  3/4x3/4 vs. 3/4x3/8

Zweefer:
homemade, or factory built?

tedh:
He said he purchased it at a local store.  I imagine it might cut down on burr comb on the bottom of frames. I sent one of my homemade bb's with him. The caveat was he couldn't laugh at my "craftsmanship".  He agreed, then laughed. You cant trust anyone.  Im going to do a google search and see if the explanation is anything other than "ooops". Ted

RAST:
3/4 was for warmer weather and flow time, 3/8 was for winter.

LazyBkpr:
What Rast said... I used to make them flippable, 3/4 on one side and 3/8 on the other...  but the 3/8 is annoying when you want to put an entrance reducer or screened entrance on so i stopped with the 3/8 stuff.
