Hive Lid Has Mold

Did a light inspection of my two hives, one of the lids is pretty heavy with mold as so in the entrance and reducers. Is this cause for concern?

Hey Jen!  If it were me, I'd not be concerned about the mold itself, but would wonder about the moisture it took to grow, what appears to be, "hairy" mold.  I've seen the black mildew type mold in the early spring, removing the entrance reducer stopped that and the bees clean it up quickly. Ted

It is where the moisture is attracted to the cold at the perimeter, not over the cluster so the hive is being ventilated adequately. it looks like the board may be of a material that absorbs moisture more readily than plywood. Like Ted I would not be concerned.

When the girls get active in the springtime they'll clean it up "in no time".

Where are you getting your lids from?
