Linden Trees
« on: June 07, 2020, 11:30:05 am »
if you have room for another tree plant a Linden. I stepped outside yesterday & heard a roar of bees. I looked up expecting to see a swarm but that was not the case. I walked around looking for the source & realized that my Linden Tree was in full bloom. it was covered with every type of bee or pollinator that frequents my area. I have 10 hives here at the house so there were a lot of honeybees on the tree.

Our persimmon trees are the same way.

My bees are all over the Little Leaf Lindens in my neighborhood.  I asked an arborist, that is also a beekeeper, his #1 pick for a tree and he said Little Leaf Linden.  They are great for planting in city lots because they take a lot of pollution, etc.   Here in Kansas, we have a native variety that is commonly called Basswood.  It's a bee magnet as well.

Agreed! Basswood makes for great honey as well. Super light with a minty aftertaste!
