Market stand!
« on: October 28, 2017, 05:30:04 pm »
I have pretty much handed off the candle making part of things to Jane, and she has done a great job. The bright colours of the rolled candles really catch the eye. I have now also got a small 14" screen that rolls a bunch of pictures by of my bee yards and hives.
Often people ask if we have bees and the pics should reassure them (there are people who resell honey).

Nice display, I would stop and buy some candles or honey.  Good idea with the photos.

Beautiful display!  Perfection!
Have you thought about adding beard balm?  It's about time for fuzzy Perry to appear in your forum picture!

Everything is lined up so perfectly---every little detail has been attended to--the stacking of the candles, the direction of the labels, the size of the bottles, what not?  Certainly indicative of a beekeeper who tends to his bees with exactitude.

Perry....any suggestions on a first go with candles?  I have now a good build-up of wax and would like to start making candles.  Should I start with a certain size and grow the variety?  Or start with a good variety?  I like the picture idea, any good pictures of those?

I would start off with just a few varieties, figure out what moves, and run with those.

Small votive (think skep) are a good seller. I like this one because one mold does 3 skeps. https://www.mannlakeltd.com/shop-all-categories/candle-wine-and-soap-making/candle-making/candle-flex-molds/beehive-votive-set-of-3
We charge $3 each.

Tapers (10") sell well. https://www.mannlakeltd.com/shop-all-categories/candle-wine-and-soap-making/candle-making/candle-flex-molds/10-quot-25-40-cm-taper
We charge $7 a pair.

Beeswax bars for people that want to make their own lip balm and hand lotions. https://www.mannlakeltd.com/shop-all-categories/candle-wine-and-soap-making/candle-making/candle-flex-molds/1-oz-28-34-g-five-pack-beeswax
We charge $2 each.

You could also include some pillars, but you have to charge enough (more wax) that it dissuades some folks.  https://www.mannlakeltd.com/shop-all-categories/candle-wine-and-soap-making/candle-making/candle-flex-molds/3-cylinder We charge $18.
https://www.mannlakeltd.com/shop-all-categories/candle-wine-and-soap-making/candle-making/candle-flex-molds/6-cylinder We charge $28.

T-lites are a no brainer, probably our best money maker. At $1.25 a piece and only using a half ounce of wax..... :) (think $31 a lb.)
We buy those from a different supplier, and we avoid the metal cups and go with the poly-carbonate ones instead, they look much nicer. We buy 500 cups and 500 pre-tabbed wicks at a go and will probably go with 1,000 next time.

Here is the most recent pic of our stand with the picture screen that has a bunch of my pictures on a usb stick and rotates through them all. A lot of people stop and watch for a bit, some ask questions, and once I start talking they don't stand a chance!
We also started burning a t-lite in a jar on the table (right back corner), we get 5 hours out of them.

Looking at the picture of my wife manning the booth reminds me how lucky I am every day when I get home the locks haven't been changed. ;)

Neill,
If you combine the first and the second pictures, you get your answer--The first picture has the same woman as the second (evidenced by the same hair and shirt) but the first picture shows the inscription-- labeled "Brandt's Bees"  Obviously, the "bees" is meant to refer to Perry's  Bride.   :D

   LOL good advice!
I never figured Perry for a cradle robber.  I suppose when they are that cute you have to get them as quick as you can!   ;D

No no no Lazy.  Perry isn't robbing the cradle.  His beautiful wife is robbing the grave!   Bahhhhhh hahahaha!  Sorry Perry, I can resist anything, except temptation. 8)  Ted
