Netflix series "Rotten"
« on: May 29, 2018, 09:40:34 am »
Netflix has produced a new documentary series about the breakdowns in the U.S. food industry.  Episode 1 is entitled Lawyers, Guns, and Honey.  The program does a very good job of explaining the U.S.'s demand for honey, how honey enters the country (sometimes illegally), how it is inspected, and the impact it has on the U.S. honey producer.  There are interviews with several beekeepers from around the country.  One of the beekeepers is Clint Walker from  Rogers, TX. http://www.walkerhoneyfarm.com/  I heard him speak at a state beekeeping meeting last fall.
They don't come right out and say it, but it's clear that you can't trust honey that is on the supermarket shelf.
It is worth the 1 hour it takes to watch it as novice and seasoned beekeepers will find it interesting.
