Feeding Bees Beet Sugar
« on: September 11, 2018, 12:08:54 pm »
Over here in upper Calif are in serious need of cane sugar for feeding all fall and winter long. Us beeks are having trouble finding 25 pound bags of sugar. Walmart stores and Walmart Online are out of 25 pound bags. There is a place in southern Oregon that sells 25 pound sacks of Beet sugar? How would this work for feeding bees?

Jen,

I have used beet sugar before with no ill effects. It is essentially sucrose which is what the bees need. Brown sugar is generally considered not good due to all the ash content.

Lee had a lot of good info on this subject before but I don't have the link.
