Title: Hive stands
Post by: Mikey N.C. on November 13, 2017, 04:45:40 pm
Just thought I'd show what i learned using cinder blocks for hive stands.
Back in spring when bees were swarming , I made stands in a rush with cinder blocks ( not thinking).
Today i had to axe a Queen an do a newspaper combine. Late in the year but have fingers crossed.

If you'll notice how i set cinder blocks on 2nd box from the left , thats newspaper combine.
The box i picked up for combine had blocks laying same way, after setting box over

I looked in blocks and seen the biggest blackwidow spider I've ever seen (didn't get pic) body nickel size , so just thought I'd share what can happen stacking blocks that way.

I have always been glad after a combine in that circumstance (meaning in Fall).  :)

Mice love to build nest in them as well when the holes are up.

Mikey, I have read this several times and I guess you have to explain to me what is wrong with the hive in question.  Are you saying you have the bricks with the holes facing up and that is wrong?  I use cinder blocks for hive stands and now I will have to go look and see how the bricks are facing.

B12,
With block holes facing up it gives critters somewhere to live.

Thanks for this post.  I double-checked my hive stands just to make sure the blocks are correct :)
