Has anyone here had experience with Long Lang Hives? Pros and Cons? They would be used here in upper northern California.

We are having one built, and will put one of our three colonies in the hive once it is ready.  We figured we'd try one out before converting all three.

Here's a link to my earlier post:

We are having ours built to Caroline Abbott's specifications:

There is also this method:

Dr. Sharashkin also has two books for sale on keeping bees in Horizontal Hives.  He talks about the Long Langstroth, but mostly promotes the Layens Hive, which uses a larger frame, as well as a some specialized tools, which he sells.

Not used a Long Lang.

There is an interesting bit about Long Hives by Roger Patterson on the Dave Cushman website.

CBT-that's what I built. click on the link. you can run it as a single hive or install the dividers & run it as 3 hives. it is sized so that 2nd deeps or honey supers will fit.
aside from being on legs so you do not have to bend over I see no real upside to these. the guy I built this one for jumps on anything he considers new. he has a lot of idle gadgets gathering dust, including 3 flow hives.
