I have a question about these. If you use pulled comb in the frames for a swarm trap, how do you keep the moths out?

Here are a couple of bait hives I set out today.

It was quicker for me to set a hive up than include a pic with this post..      I'm hopeless.

Why all the crates?   Looks like an accident waiting to happen.   If the bees find it to be the most desirable cavity in the area,  they will move in, regardless of the height.

Interesting that hidhut lists it for 29.95 (plus $12.80 shipping USPS) and amazon lists it fulfilled by hidhut for 39.93 free shipping with Prime.

Good luck Barbarian and thx for sharing your pics.Hopefully you will have some swarm pics soon.
Greg, I wish I had checked amazon I ate the12.80 shipping. It will still be worth it to head off any wax moth problems.
I don't know.It was like that when I got here.

It only cost you $2.80 more,  the base price was $10 higher at Amazon.

Good catch,  I'm not surprised Amazon is a couple bucks cheaper as I'm sure they get good rates with the volume of shipping they do.  I guess I have to remember to give out the Amazon link in the future.

This probably needs to be a separate thread, but since we're talking about Amazon, I'd like to mention that they have a smile.amazon.com where you can designate part of the price to be given to a charity of your choice.

http://smile.amazon.com/about/ref=smi_se_ft_abt_saas    is the link for more info.

Robo ....... Thanks for the comments about my traps. Trap no. 2 is unbalanced. I spotted it before I left and straightened it up.

I will ponder about strapping the stacks when I do a check.

From reports, the local swarming season has started. It is early this year. I'm not looking forward to the bumble calls.

Awsome!   Was the trap there before the swarm,  or did you put the trap there because of the swarm?

It was there before the swarm. This church used to call me when they had a swarm on the wall,so I started hanging traps there a few yrs ago.Now I just swap out the traps. You could call it a honey hole.

Good catch and "honey hole!"   I received a text message from a friend who lives next to the place where I set a trap saying he saw a dozen bees at the entrance yesterday.  I am going to check it out today to see if its scouts or my first swarm trap catch  ;D.  I shook my first swarm of 2013 in this location.

I have a few places like that.   It is truly a win, win, win.

Owner is glad to get rid of the bees for free.  Beekeeper is happy to drop off an empty nuc box and have it filled for free.   Bees are fortunate to get a home without being killed.
