Title: Dad's old Oliver 77 has stayed in the family

Son Andrew has it and is slowly getting it back in shape.

After sitting un-started for over 7 years, it fired right up after we cleaned the points and adjusted them via the preferred method ( 2 credit cards' thickness at full open)

Tires all the way around are next........that calcium chloride did a number on them, and the right rear rim where the valve stem leaked.

A true treasure when you have the original family tractor still in the family

Mom told me they bought it in August 1951, shortly after my younger brother was born.

Grandpa insisted they didn't need a second tractor, the Farmall 'H' and the mules were enough, so he refused to help buy it.

Mom and Dad borrowed the money from Mom's father and paid him back as soon as the corn was harvested......all $ 2300 of it.

Dad farmed 220 acres with it and the 'H' until 1966 when we bought an Oliver 880 to go with it.

The dealer in my home town sold only two varieties of Olivers for a long time:  77 gas and Super 88 diesel.

I stopped in Charles City IA a couple years ago and toured the County Museum which has an outstanding display of old Olivers.

Gotta love them old tractors!  Good on your Son for working to restore it.
