yo-yo temperatures
« on: January 12, 2018, 08:52:34 pm »
we had temps in single & double digits for over 2 weeks, then 3 warm days, & now it's back in single & double digits. what has me concerned is that at 60* yesterday after all that cold would produce a lot of condensation & being followed by a fast drop in temps the condensation did not get a chance to evaporate off. hopefully the girls clustered back up before the cold hit. fingers crossed.
during the warm days I went thru all my hives & put a 1" piece of foam insulation under the outer cover. I only had 1 dead-out & 1 hive that looked iffy. all the rest looked really strong. 1 hive had friggin' hive beetles on top of the inner cover.

Were the little stinkers alive?

Friday morning's temperature plunge was really something.  But Thursday's balmy 50 degrees allowed me to peek into hives to monitor food stores.
We have had the same weather pattern here.  Yes, I have seen signs of condensation.  I made adjustments when double checking and adding more air flow as needed.  Popsicle sticks in between the outer and inner cover always help.
