I'm pretty sure i know the answer ;D. The temp. is going to be 24F tonight and possibly tomorrow night, should i cover my 6 rows of sweet onions (Texas sweet & candy), had rain last night and possible snow today.Jack ???
-
I am in the same boat. I just planted a long row of onions yesterday. I hope the answer is no as I don't want to go tromping around in the cold mud today!
-
That's what i was thinking Jim, but i think we might as well put our boots on. :'( Jack

i have green beans to cover and thats still no garante. so time shall tell
-
I've always thought onions were pretty hearty. That's one of the first things to show up at the feed store in February.
-
Same boat here also, planted potatoes and onions yesterday.
-
always a gamble for a late freeze and alotta rain for taters. onion should do ok as long and not really wet. Just keeping fingers crossed its not to hard got some good looking cabbage and brocholie too. plus my taters have eyes. ooooh the hills have eyes.
-
My taters not up yet, my wife and i put straw over the onions that's what i always done when i had strawberries and a freeze was coming. We will see. Jack

It got cold here Monday night. About 28 or so.
It did not frost at my house though, & it looks like the peaches & apples made it through just fine.
I had a good lookin stand of potatoes though & now they are all black & wilted. It won't kill the root though, & they will come back & be just fine.
The cold will not hurt the onions. Mine have been out since Feb. & they are still just fine. (other than being a little dry from the drought)
-
yep just looked a the apple blossoms and it did not even wilt them, don't think it got as cold as they hoped for. Seems like they try to exaggerate the weather here.
-
good to hear no set backs with those goodies. im excited cuz my beans pulled through fine and more are sprouting up
looking forward to more planting next weekend. just so excited for the life we are making here.
-

Set up a sprinkler and watch the temp and when it gets close to freezing turn it on the water will keep the frost away and protect to about 25 deg.

Apis, may have to do that this coming Saturday night? The weatherman says Frost. :o Jack
