Title: Are the bees bearding ?
Post by: Mikey N.C. on May 11, 2017, 06:37:26 pm
Out of town and wifey sent this pic of a nuc installed 2nd weekend in April.  2 ten deeps and a medium super. Entrance at 3/8 , are they getting to hot ?

Mikey, I have had my entrance reducers off for the last week or two. Open that up and let them cool it down.

I have a 1" hole drilled in supers with a closure that can be turned to open , should I send wifey out to open vent in super?

Mikey, in my opinion I would remove the reducer entirely. Way up here we are at temps down to 40 F and only up to 55 F during the days and I have my hives wide open!

I guess I should take the same advice. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170511/e0405c8c18ac6f62a7159cc02c234e29.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170511/85ef338ba5b469f96f868d8a30780ea1.jpg)

yes2matt, what is your location? With that many boxes on your hive (if they are needed) why would you have a reducer on?
If you have that many bees in there the reducer would be impeding them from working.

mikey,
i'm with perry, get rid of the e/r............that's probably why they are bearding.

yes2matt.........hmmm, i don't know what you have going on there with all the boxes on but again i am thinking the same as perry.....

The ER is beeglued in there pretty good, and I don't like to get stung so much as to pry it out. And when I watch them, they seem not to be much impeded. They asked me for a landing board tho, I said maybe for mothers day.   I'm in Charlotte NC

I use an app Tapatalk and it's super easy to put in a pic.
