Starting Nuc's
« on: July 08, 2018, 05:59:03 pm »
For the last 5 yrs. when i try too raise queens from a frame of eggs and they do raise a queen, because i see them 2 to 4 days after they hatch. Well when i check back in two or three weeks they are queenless???  I loose more queens  than i gain??? I have been putting the blame on Birds or the Virgin queen getting lost? Anyone here have that kind of trouble?  I didn't use too? Jack

Hi Jack! Glad to hear from you ;)

And YES! Same story here! Whether I let the hives make their own queen, or purchase new queens, which would be around ten purchased queens this year to get my nucs ready for sale this season. I've had about 50% success in queens staying alive. And one queen I introduced with plenty of time, 5 days because she was a hybrid, and the bee liked her. I know that because I could run my finger over the queen cage and none of the bees clung to it like they were trying to kill her. All seemed ready to release this queen and they balled her the minute I turned her loose. Been like this for two seasons now.
