Day after a thunderstorm!
« on: July 02, 2017, 02:27:15 pm »
Driving to the yards a day after a thunderstorm and 3 days of rain, I figured I might find something, and wasn't disappointed!
Pretty good size. It has just settled into a tree and I didn't want to take the chance of it leaving so I hived it and then took pics! :D

Update!!
I just went back to drop in a frame of comb and honey to anchor them, and the box was empty! I looked about 30 feet away, up in a fir tree and there they were. I got a ladder and tried again. I guess I'll know by tomorrow if the comb and honey was enough to hold them. ;D

Jeez...  I wish they would make up their minds about what is right, and what they "DO" and don't....
Went to move a stack of supers yesterday...  Ten supers, all drawn and sprayed with BT....   No lid on them, i took the lid off about five days ago... Umm, because I was going to move them then, but got busy and it got delayed....  anyhow... i find the open stack occupied...   I thought, maybe they are robbing? Smoked them and found a fat healthy queen and a large patch of eggs.....   sigh....
Fixing to leave, so I slid a bottom board under the third super down, put an inner cover and a lid on...  We will see if they are alive next spring.  They should do well inside the machine shed.

Almost positive this came from a hive that I pulled the queen from on June 21st. I have seen a lot of after swarms with virgin queens this year from hives I have grabbed the queen to head off the swarm. I was pretty sure I had them all the first time around but for whatever reason they decided nothing in the box was worthwhile sticking around for (I guess  ???).
I'll check this am and see if they stuck around or flew the coop.

Checked today and it looks like success. No bees on the tree and bees coming and going from the box. It was almost more trouble than what it was worth.
