Jan 2nd swarm
« on: January 05, 2018, 10:15:50 am »
Well we have not seen rain here since late July and it has been a nice warm winter while everyone else to the east is freezing their rear ends off. Got a swarm call on January second and it was a nice one and early free bees for me. Friend of mine that is from one of the local Indian tribes (Pima) said his grand parents always said "bees looking for new home early means good rain in spring for crops" Sure hope so because we sure need some to bring our desert plants out of dormancy....

Cheers, Bill

Hi Nugget, its 50 degrees here in upper northern California on Jan 5th. That's crazy! If I get a swarm out of this weather condition I sure hope I'm home to catch it. I'll have to try and take note of the cedar trees on the bank behind my house, that's where they always land.

Fire department called me and this swarm was about a mile from my house and the lady was flipping out and refused to wait until the left on their own after resting. So I left work and nabbed them before she called an exterminator, sure was a good sized swarm... Love free bees.
Cheers, Bill
