I don't know what dummy built a 6 frame swarm trap out of pallet wood last year but I like to have went bottom over top getting it down from head high this morning. Bees have only been in it since Easter Sunday, that thing must be packed with honey. I'll give em a day to acclimate and find out tomorrow.

Glad you were able to get it down without incident!

LOL I put up a few traps with a ladder... the first one that caught a swarm.. I took down after dark, it weighed three hundred pounds while I was on the ladder, so that made the ladder step MOVE when I tried to step on it, and after that all sorts of shenanigans happened...

Lazy are you saying you have learned some lessons? ;D

Oh yeah... LOTS of stings later....

i had a brain f^art & built a swarm trap out of a 3 gallon bucket. i put lemon grass oil & some old dark comb. i've caught 4 swarms with it. the entrance is closed with a pvc cap. the cap & entrance pipe are drilled so a nail secures the cap. the cap is secured to the trap with a light cable ( steel fishing leader ) to prevent it's being lost

Wow Rob! Why didn't I think of that C:-) the only thing I think I would add is drilled ventilation holes, because what if your trap has a swarm in it and you can't get to the trap for a few days?
-
That's a easy peazy idea, rober. You would sure want to check them daily because it would be a lot of work cutting out that comb if it went too long.
-
Baker, and adding how many bees and the queen would get slaughtered with trying to get the comb out. I've been thru that when lifting a lid off of a hive that is smathered in deep criss cross comb stuck to the under lid.
Rober, but still like the ease and weight of the bucket idea, especially when the swarms land up in nose bleed heaven.

Yeah that was my worry bakers.... give them a week in that thing and it would be a CUT OUT instead of a trap! But hey as long as it worked!!!!!
