Hi from Kingston, Ontario
« on: April 09, 2017, 07:17:02 pm »
Good afternoon everyone,

I found this forum via the beemaster forum. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about bees, I find them really interesting. A friend of mine is running a hive rental service so I am hoping to get some hands on experience with bees for the first time this summer, but I have so many questions in the mean time!

I look forward to chatting with you all about bees :)

Craig

Glad you found us. We're the friendliest bunch around, bees and fun, that's what we do.
We have a healthy contingent of Canucks here as well, a lot from Nova Scotia  :)  :D We're trying to take over!
Ask questions, we love to answer them, this is a group that the word help comes naturally to.
Careful with honey bees Craig, once you get hooked it's like an addiction.

No bees (yet) I am still working on convincing my wife it's a good idea. The hive rental is probably my best option, basically I pay a nominal fee (i think it's a couple of hundred $CAD) and if the company deems our house is a suitable location they drop a hive off and then do all the maintenance for the year. You can be as involved or not as you like. I'd like to get some hands on time, but it works for things like being away in the summer etc. Then at the end of the season we get a cut of the honey.

The two of you should go to a local club meeting, or bee school.  Or get your friend to take the two of you to his apiary.  Be sure to suit up, though.

Hopefully, she'll become enamored with the bees like the rest of us.  And introduce her to the female beeks on this site.

And in case she still needs convincing that women make great beeks:
