Bee Quick Caution
« on: July 29, 2018, 11:37:34 am »
I had a spray bottle of bee quick sitting on a side extension table on my table saw that leaked. it removed the paint & melted the rubber ear cushions on the temples of my reading glasses. I do not use a fume board when I pull supers. we beekeepers have enough gear to store. what I do is lay a section of towel on top of the super, spray it with bee quick, & turn the outer cover upside down on top of that for a seal. I also lay a section on top of the supers when I stack them in the truck. yesterday when I did that some of the towel was hanging over the sides & wrinkled the paint on the super on top of the pile. I mentioned this to a friend & he said he had a bee quick soaked towel draped over the bed of his NEW truck & it wrinkled & removed the paint. bee careful what you store it in. it comes in plastic containers but not all plastic can withstand it. I've had 2 spray bottles distort & leak from contact with it. 3a 3rd bottles did not leak but the spray mechanism melted. I also noticed that any bees that came into direct contact with the towel died.

Thanks for the heads up, rober.  I've never really heard anybody say anything about Bee Quick, positive or negative.  Don't use Bee Go!  The smell is overpowering and hard to get rid of.

The reason for using a fume board is to the chemical is kept from direct contact with the hive and only the fumes are in the hive, that the bees can quickly vent out. Placing clothes could let some of the chemicals transfer into the hive parts.

Then you have just about made a fume board, then you do not have to worry about the cloth touching and destroying paint.

that was my point & I get yet another use for the spacers. they get used for mite treatment, queen cage installations ( I can lay the cage right on top of the frames ), & I mold candy in baking pans & lay the candy on the frames eliminating candy boards. the spacers can be stored from hooks on the rafters & save floor & shelf space in the bee shed. i'm running out of room
( again ) & have to treat my sheds like houseboats & utilize every nook & cranny.

Yep, use a lot of things "off label"" and you can make yourself a lot of trouble. Use bee quick per label and it is a wonderful substance.

I'm usually pretty diligent about reading labels but some bee quick leaked during shipment & it erased the print.
& it is good to hear from you iddee.
