I had a cloake board hive swarm
« on: May 17, 2015, 11:58:54 am »
I had some customers stop by from Northeast Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri to see my operation.
I took them out to see my cloake board setup and low and behold they started swarming from the lower box.
Bees were circling everywhere and they moved south about 15 feet or so.
I told them this is a swarm and they will land in that cedar bush to the south.
They did about 10 feet up.
I set up a fold out ladder and got my swarm bucket and bumped the limb and the cluster fell straight down in the vented bucket.
I then set the bucket on top of the ladder and walked away.
They ask me what about the loose bees.
I said watch, they all went to the bucket.
I then picked up the bucket and put them in a 6 frame NUC.
Added some sugar syrup and they're still there this mawn'n.
I checked on the cloake board hive and there is still a large amount of bees in both boxes.
Whew, the Queen Cells in the top box were capped off Thursday and will be ready to move to nucs this Thursday.

Yikes...  good catch.. a little embarrassing but I could eat a bit of crow if it meant catching the swarm.
Drinking RUM before noon makes you a PIRATE not an alcoholic!
