Opportunities to learn long distance
« on: April 11, 2020, 05:05:54 pm »
There are numerous opportunities to learn beekeeping related information  out there while we stay away from each other.
Here is a link to an event that is happening 4/13 at 10:30 am.  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pollinators-climate-change-and-clean-energy-tickets-102345662632?utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=reminder_attendees_48hour_email&utm_term=eventn
Marla Spivak will be speaking at this webinar.   It's free.

On 4/15, at 10:00 am, there is a webinar provided by the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Kansas.  Gar LaGrange will talk about intermediate and commercial beekeeping.  Sharon Dobesh will cover pest management and Kansas Bee research.  To join the session, go to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/768279100.  You need the Zoom app downloaded to your device to participate.

This is just two.  Does anyone else know of any learning opportunities we can take advantage of?

Auburn University is offering a series of FREE on-line beekeeping classes in April and May.

The schedule is:
- April 2: Ten Mistakes Beekeepers Make, Lonnie Funderburg (Alabama Beekeeper)
- April 7: Coping with Pesticide Sprays, Jack Rowe (Alabama Extension)
-April 16: Learning from Pandemics, Dr. J. Tsuruda (U. of Tennessee)
-April 30: Queen Management Essentials, Dr. J. Rangel (Texas A&M)
-May 14: Bee and Parasite Biogeography, Dr. K. Delaplane (U. of Georgia)
-May 28: What's Killing Honeybees, Dr. J. Ellis (U. of Florida)

This is a great chance to not only hear Keith Delaplane, Jamie Ellis and other top-notch honey bee educators, but to ask them questions! FYI, Juliana Rangel was at NCSU before becoming head of the Texas A&M bee lab.

I heard the "10 Mistakes Beekeepers Make" by Lonnie Funderburg.  It was good.

I have had the opportunity to hear Tsuruda, Rangel, Delaplane, and Ellis in person.  You don't want to miss them and it's free.

Thanks iddee, I had forgotten about this series.

This webinar just came to my attention.  Marla Spivak will be speaking on "Beekeeping in the time of Covid-19"  at 7:30 pm CST.  https://www.facebook.com/NebraskaBeekeepers/?__tn__=%2CdkCH-R-R&eid=ARDgL4g9m68QFInGlhW1nxnzDqKwjondvdRzxnfPAaU4fq3ft3R6h_QT8BUpQKs0y6qhVR04t3HOWg-6&hc_ref=ARR48Fk-JURKYYhm_gCGtS  This should guide you through the process.
