Greetings from Amador County CA
« on: October 31, 2015, 10:38:53 am »
Hi all,
Started with Bees last year in April. Had a dismal rookie year... almost lost the whole sheebang! This year so far is going better (knock on wood). I taught myself how to graft and went from 6 to current 25 hives. I started using OAV with tremendous results for mites and bees are looking ok going into winter. I look forward to learning from this site. I have been on beesource a lot but am always looking for new avenues to learn.

Regards,

Laurie

Welcome, Laurie. I was on beesource for years, as you can see by my post count. They just became too fussy and belligerent for me, so I left a few years ago. I think you will find much friendlier and helpful folks here. Pull up a chair and join the "family".

Ditto that on beesource, that site is getting a bit too snarky for me.

Hi Laurie :welcome:
Most of us here are from somewhere else initially, having drifted here mostly searching for a more friendly, respectful environment. Couple that with some pretty wicked senses of humour, we tend to actually have a lot of fun here to go along with our common passion for bees. An extended family if you wish.

Bee Commander:  "....went from 6 to current 25 hives".  To my calculations, that sounds like more than a 400% increase----that's pretty good for a new beekeeper.  :goodjob:

Maybe you should be on the advice-giving end of this forum?

Laurie, with my mouth wide open in admiration for your one year of progress,  I wish you a very sincere "Welcome" to this forum.  :welcome:

Wow, thanks efmesh! Thank you all for the warm welcome. Regarding advice.... it seems every time I get too big for my britches I get knocked back into the next county. Very hesitant to give any advice.. I will share what has worked for me. Again, I am so new to this and learn everyday.

Thanks again!

Bee Commander: "...Regarding advice.... it seems every time I get too big for my britches I get knocked back into the next county."

efmesch:That, pretty much, is what deservedly happens to everyone.

Bee Commander: "... I will share what has worked for me. Again, I am so new to this and learn everyday."

efmesch:  That, "learning everyday", is true of anyone here, and, IMHO, is a good policy to follow.  We try to share our experiences, which is why not everyone agrees on every issue.  But the lump sum of it all comes out to be positive learning for us all.

Perry every one on here is a master bee keeper if he or she has bees, some more than others and you are one of them.

No talk to any that have taken the master beekeeper course and they will disagree. You need a master beekeeper to teach beekeeping courses.

Yes apisbees I know about the test for master beekeeps and have looked at one, might could pass one if not for the scientific part of it, so I think that there are a few if not more on here that could pass the course too if they wanting to if they have not already done so and as much as you know I am sure you could pass it and you may already have.

Ken.

Welcome Laurie, and what Ef said.  Going from six to 20 plus hives makes you a lot more than a novice beekeeper.  Some peoples have 20 years of experience and some have one year of experience 20 times.  You are the latter.  Evidence shows you to be a quick learner and a "get it done" gal.  Again, welcome aboard, we are anxious for you to share your knowledge with us.

Welcome Laurie, from what you wrote you are already ahead of some of us 8). It's interesting how other beekeepers in different parts of the U S of A and other countries keep bees? It's hard to understand some on this forum, theysall, sometimes talks funny. Jack
