Greetings from Wisconsin!
« on: February 27, 2016, 08:37:10 pm »
Hi everyone! My name is Pam and I live in the beautiful northwoods of Wisconsin where I work as a kindergarten teacher. I am so excited to have found this forum (thank you, Todd) and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and learning everything I can about keeping bees!
My journey into beekeeping is just beginning, although it has been on my wish list for over a year! I have pretty much spent the past year reading and watching videos online and last month I traveled across the state to attend a seminar hosted by the Dunn County Beekeepers. What a great day! I met some incredibly knowledgeable people who filled my brain with good things (thanks again, Todd) and I left feeling inspired.  We were all given a copy of Keith Delaplane's book First Lessons in Beekeeping, which I have read from cover to cover and highlighted heavily! I have ordered bees and my wonderful partner is in the process of making beautiful cedar boxes for me (the man is a saint--so supportive of my mini-obsession and showing a genuine interest, too). So.....everything is in order, now bring on the bees!

Plenty of knowledge here to tap into and plenty of friendly folks that don't mind sharing it.

I was in Eau Claire once and snowed in for 3 days with the highs reaching -4F.  It is a really really cool place.

Welcome Pam,  being a Kindergarten teacher you should do well in beekeeping. You know how to study and the ability to stay calm and think when the world is crashing down around you is a plus ;D
Also, you will find the more you learn the less you will know, Delaplane quote kinda( insert plug for LazyBkpr website, a really good one). There are so many aspects to beekeeping that it is never boring. Definitely not paint by numbers and you will have to find what works for you yourself.  Yes a Kindergarten teacher is perfect. Welcome again.

So you came during one of our heat waves?
Next time you are here, I'll try to order better weather. If not, I have a nice house to hunker down in until it improves.  Just drop me a line and we'll set something up.

Agreed!  The Outyard was the second site on  the list of sites I gave to visit after this one.

Once again, officially welcome! As I said at the meeting, this is the best place to learn and ask questions, as well as get to know some other crazy people that share in your obsession!

Thanks!   But that was years ago when I was driving a truck (1999 or 2000).  I try to stay south of I-40 any more.  :)

Welcome aboard Apis63.  My wife is still in education at age 74.  She taught kindergarten the first 13 years of her loooooong education career.  I am empathetic with your lot in life.  One must have great dedication to work with five-year old's.  God Bless you for that, and keep on posting about your bees.

We're glad you have joined our forum.

Welcome, welcome!  Great bunch of folks here and lots of knowledge.  I have found being a newbee that the most confounding part is making choices on dealing with situations, when there are so many opinions . I also recommend keeping a log.  Good luck with your bees.

Welcome. I have many hobbies but I find Beekeeping to be the most rewarding. Plus, I have made some awesome friends since joining the hobby as I am confident you will as well. This is a comfortable place to be - especially on a cold winters day with a warm beverage. Enjoy and welcome again.
