Great story and life experiences Scott. I thought you were going to find a hive in the shed wall but finding 2 live hives what a bonus.
You need a few more rainy days to get you posting some more stories from days gone by. Your old time mentor was most likely amused and in a way appreciative that you brought the broken branch down with you. from 15 ft a lot of the bees would have taken flight where you managed to bring the complete swarm down to the blanket.

heh, I am sure he was highly amused. No worries about the swarm returning to that branch either..
   Once I hit the ground I didn't pay much attention to anything but trying to breathe.  Just glad I was managing to catch my breath by the time the bees started marching..   At that point I thought that old man was a wizard. I had never imagined such a thing.
   If I did that today I would be laid up for a month... which I suppose is the wisdom of getting someone whos bones are still capable of bouncing to do it.
