Feeding Bees Hard Candy
« on: December 15, 2019, 01:43:16 pm »
I never have understood why hard candy is appropriate to feed bees when their proboscis is actually a straw. I know that bees have survived on it tho. But to me it like the 'How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop' commercial. I guess they just have to work the bejezers out of that cold hard candy to get any sustainance at all, plus they have to keep the queen fed. I don't get it!  ???

I think the condensation the bees generate helps to make it manageable for them.  Also, remember that the moisture when using 1:1 sugar syrup has to be reduced.  They have mandibles to help as well.   It makes you wonder who figure this out all those years ago!
