We are attending the Southern Adirondack Beekeeper's Association Seminar on 3/10.  Looking forward to hearing the different speakers.  Don't know if any of you are familiar with Michael Palmer.  He is the "cold weather" beekeeper up near the Canadian border.  He has several videos on youtube.

**You had me scratching my head on the dates.  The 8th and 9th are Thursday and Friday.

I have watched many of his vids and enjoyed his informative post on "another" forum. He is very knowledgeable and respected. Sounds like fun. :)

Wow! Les, that's a wonderful opportunity.  As we know, beekeeping practices can vary from region to region.  Enjoy the day and tell us how it went.  Start a new thread?

What a great meeting.  Many say it was one of the best.  Our two guest speakers, Randy Oliver and Dr. Dewey Caron, complimented each other so well.  Dr. Caron covered the academic side and Oliver spoke from the hands on perspective.  Both are easy to listen to.  The overall areas that were focused on were honey bee nutrition and getting varroa mites under control.  The #1 recommendation for controlling varroa was to start with your choice of queens.  Hygienic, VHS, what ever but use queens that are bred to combat varroa. Oliver also emphasized local  queens with favorable characteristics over queens from other parts of the country.
Attached are some pictures of Randy demonstrating a safe way to pick up brood boxes and remove frames without using back muscles.
