Bee type?

(1/2) > >>

Zweefer:
Saw a bunch of these at a friends house.  Bright thorax, black abdomen.  Anyone know what they are?

G3farms:
Don't know their specific name, but they are solitary bees, already had two bee calls for them.

They are pollinators and make a nest out of mud or leaves.

Zweefer:
Thanks G3

G3farms:
After taking a closer look at the pics I see what looks like dirt on the back of the bee, these could be miner bees, they will make their nest in the ground. The third pick it even looks like a hole in the ground.

riverbee:
zweef, i think like g3 said it's a miner, or mining bee, and it's a female, not a male.  we see them here too, and just last weekend.  i think i have some pix or something on mining bees in wisconsin from the u of madison.  i will look for it and post it when i find the info.
