raising Queens
« on: November 13, 2015, 09:18:23 am »
If you raise a queen and she never gets out of the cage to mate, how long can she stay in the cage?
Will she take her mating flight after released?
If you buy a mated queen, did they let her out of the cage and then catch her again ?

I understand how to create queens but the how long in the cage is confusing me.

What Jack said. It is not just a cage that can effect the mating of the queen. a week of bad weather can keep the drones from populating the congregating areas and the queens from getting in the needed mating flights.
In the spring along with wind and rain to keep the queens and drones from flying, you also have the temperature to contend with. If it is not warm enough the drones will not be in the congregating areas waiting for the queen.
