1 Gallon Feeders On My Hives ~ It's Too Cold ~ I Have An Idea
« on: November 12, 2015, 05:26:08 pm »
I put on my one gallon feeders with fumagilin in the syrup. It's too cold for the bees to take it. I was going to bring in the buckets each night to warm them, then put them back on in the mornings. However, I have an idea to put a small light bulb into the deep that the gallon feeders are in. To keep the syrup a little warmer so the bees can take it.

Good idea? or Not a good idea?

Jen, get one of these and put it in with the light and it will work fine. Set it for 60 to 70 degrees.

Okay...?  So this must be electric and will needs an extention cord.

Is the heating element inside the unit? there really isn't any description of how to use it in this ad?

It is a 110 volt thermostat that you would have to cut one wire and hook up to one side for the hot wire  in  and one side for the wire to the light bulb and when the temperture got to 60 degrees it would turn off the light bulb, the thermostat would set in the box with the light bulb.
