Before and after pics of an old maytag model 31 engine. She was stuck when I got it but 100 percent complete with no chips cracks or welds. Think I may have it running this coming week

Nice looking engine.
Had a neighbor that was into these, bet he had about 100 of them, most looked new and would start. He sold out earlier this year.
Need an old extractor to put it on or better yet an ice cream freezer!

At the Mule Day festival in Georgia there's a ice cream vendor there every year with an old hit and miss engine driving 4 ice cream churns. I could stand there all day and listen to it run. And eat ice cream.
I'd sure like to have one to restore, but haven't had any luck finding one worth a hoot.

I haven't found a single cylinder Maytag yet that couldn't be restored.This one was stuck tight and the Rod needed resized. But to good of shape to be a parts motor otherwise.

I guess Maytags may not have been to numerous down here, I've never found one except for restored ones. John Deeres were pretty popular, but they're still hard to find.

Hey! Got one of those sitting on the shelf in the shop. I've been planning on cleaning it up... one of these days... It ran when I put it on the shelf 20 years ago.....

I bought one of those engines at an auction near my home when I was a kid in the mid fifties. Mounted it on a cart with soap box derby wheels, (a pulley mounted to one of those derby wheels), a fan belt and a lever with a pulley for a clutch. Seeing that brings back memories, thanks for showing it here. :)

There is an outfit in Iowa that travels to fairs and every day on RAGBRAI that uses hit and miss engines to turn ice cream freezers. The ice cream is mediocre but finding a bit of shade and listening to those engines pop away makes it worth it.
