Title: Hello from central Wisconsin.
Post by: Knucs on July 16, 2016, 10:56:52 am
Got the bee bug, bad this time.  What started as an idea of just 2 hives as a hobby has blossomed into a sideliner Nuc business, well, we'll see after winter.  ??? Had a hive for bout 5 yrs, 2 decades before, but I see it's a whole new world now!  After getting 2 local, overwinterd Nucs, 2 packages, 2 more Nucs, then 2 more Nucs, & several different queens from different sources for their genetics, I've got 31 hives ( lots of splitting ).  Was inspired by the Mike Palmer double Nuc method and plan to have local Nucs for sale next spring.  Barely keeping ahead of the bee's with putting equipment together.  Found the outyard, thumbs UP, lead me here.

I have a friend in Vermont who has visited and is following Mike Palmer's methods quite closely. You will be hard pressed to find someone more knowledgeable in regards to overwintering nucs.

Hey Charlie!   :eusa_dance:

Welcome Knuc!

Your Avatar shows Long Langstroth hives?  I'd like to hear more about those hives sometime.  :)

Sorry Lee, photo is misleading.  3 are actually deep Nucs (langstroth), bottom left is 10 frame deep langstroth.  Honeycomb inspired paint job.

Thanks tecumseh, & I just added 2 of MP queens to my yard.  Now if I could only convince him to be our keynote speaker for our conference in March...

Mr Palmer will speak here at the Texas Beekeeping Associations annual convention on Thursday.  I am no longer a member of that organization so I do not plan to attend.

As a side bar Knucs we have a student product of your state here at the Texas A&M Bee Lab.  She writes a nice article for the Kelley news letter.  This past summer I had the opportunity to meet up with her folks and look at their bees just a bit east of Madison.

Small world, my youngest graduated from the Wisconsin University in Madison & I picked up a Nuc from a guy in Stoughton, which is east of Madison. How many hives do they have? Guessing she was raised as a beek? Wonder if Sue Cobey is doing her queen rearing seminar in Texas this spring?

I am not certain if Sue will come back for a class in queen rearing this year.  Our new friends the Walsh have temporarily allowed us to adopt their daughter Liz < Liz does a write up for the Kelley New Letter.  I don't think Joe and family have a lot of bees but do have plans to get up to the side liner classification fairly quickly.  We did go by the local Dadant store in a town just a bit east of Madison.  Dadant is in a brand new store and just moved out of a very old barn.  Can't recall the name of the town.  While there we also went to see the grave of the fellow who introduced itialian bees to the US.
