My only experience with Bananas goes back 30 years (Or more? Not going there!) My Mentor told me that rubbing a banana peel on a sting took the burn out of it...  Yeah, I got the poo stung out of me that day.

Its interesting this is brought up as it has long been noted that the alarm pheromone for bees often has been described as smelling like bananas

very true rat, i spose in my younger days i might have smelled it, nowadays, can't smell much of anything, hearing is broke down and so is the eyesight.... :D

never tried rubbing a banana peel on a sting scott...........i do know when i get stung, sure invites the rest of the family or the rest of the sisters to the party............ :D

ihor, let us know how it goes for you, and if you would like, start a new thread about what you are dealing with, will also help others and may help you as to how others have dealt with chalkbrood, and thanks again!

I have smelled the banana odor when they are testy. I have read of beekeepers eating bananas in front of hive and getting no reaction. It's likely that the alarm pheromone and bananas smell quite different to honey bees than they do to humans. :)

Ihor, I was wondering if you have heard of the cell phone APP from Canada called "Bee Health".  It contains a lot of information with good pictures.

Their treatment recommendations for the fungus called chalkbrood are:
  • Requeen
  • Increase hive ventilation
  • Place hive in warmer area or face it South
  • Replace heavily infected comb with fresh comb
  • Keep strong bee colonies

I highly recommend that APP to you.  HTH   :)
