Hi From Edmonton
« on: July 05, 2016, 11:14:52 am »
I'm an urban beekeeper in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I worked with a team to have backyard beekeeping legalised in Edmonton, setting up and running pilot locations for the city. I now have two hives. This is my third year beekeeping, and we do quite a bit of education around it. On facebook we can be found at YEGBees. I run 8 frame langstroths, one hive with an upper entrance and one with a lower... one hive seems to prefer the upper more, the other lower. I have keltronix eyeonhives (http://www.keltronixinc.com/) on one hive currently which lets me check on them and their flying during the day.

You are in major bee country in Alberta. I lived in Edmonton from 1977 to 1983. It was where I learned that -40C = -40F! :o

That happened to me once Perry, here in sunny North Dakota.  Indeed -40 is -40, and it doesn't matter of we're talking C or F :)  Only for me, it was the batteries in my old tractor and I didn't get the machine started to clear snow that day; the only positive thing I remember from that very cold day.  Warmed up a little the next day with new batteries and a new blanket of snow ;D

You aren't an Oiler's fan are you Chip?
Every one should go to the West Edmonton Mall once in their lifetime. It is what you build in a place where it dips to -40 in the winter.

Nope (actually not a sport fan---odd, I know), but I have been to the mall and it is impressive.  Last time I was there was for a conference at the University of Alberta and I really liked the campus too.  We get -40 here too but our malls aren't like the one in Edmonton.
