The Street Department found bees in an old Maple by the town cemetery and call me. Luckily, the first chain saw cut was just above the stores of capped honey. A rope was tied and another cut was made a little over two feet below the first cut. I took the section of tree home, stood it up and covered the top and side with old tarp pieces. The section of tree was actually two times bigger but the other two thirds fell apart on the ground from being rotten. Hopefully they make it till March!

Nice tree for sure. Better put some kind of insulation on the top of them for the winter. I would use a piece of plywood myself, the tarp is not much insulation and could let it sweat and drip back in on the bees.

I also see you have a lot more hives than I remember :), and I don't think I saw a single TBH?

good luck, and like g3 said, maybe ditch the tarp for some plywood or cut some pink stuff to fit in on top with a chunk of plywood over. he's probably right on about the tarp dripping back down on them. what are your temps?

Hi Perry! I do have a few more hives. I have one top bar left. I sold the other two. I am starting to change my mind on tbh's. No very much honey production and constantly running the mice out of them.

Thanks River! Forgot to reply about temps when Perry asked. It was in the 30's. They were moving slow but still angry, ha!

I think I would be tempted to put a board on top with a central hole. Above the hole could go a bottomless hive of drawn comb. I would hope that the colony would move up.

That's an excellent idea Barbarian. I hadn't thought of that. Would save me considerable time in transferring over....
