Farm Livestock / Re: Baby Goats Anyone?

Well the bad weather came last night and so did the baby!  We had a buckling born at 1:48 AM, and we waited until 4:00 thinking she must have another one in there based on how big she looked, but the placenta came and nothing seem off, so that was that.  It's the first time Prim has had a single.

I have been doing a lot of cooking in the last week.  We have quinoa salad with honey in the dressing, Sweet rolls with raspberry filling, and potato soup.

Honey baked rabbit over rice and egg rolls.  The store didn't have our normal brand of egg rolls though, and they weren't as good as the ones we normally get.

We're expecting our first kids of the year this week.  Prim's due date is tomorrow, and we are expecting very bad weather, rainy and extremely windy.  There is some evidence that does try and have their babies during bad weather to protect them from predators, so she'll probably be on time!

Mr. Moon's training as a pack goat has been going extremely well.  He now gets in and out of the car on his own without any hesitation, and a few days ago he went up and down stairs for the first time when we took him for a walk over at WCU.  Haley commented on how much better he is than a dog to walk, since he doesn't need to be trained not to pull.

Great Plains Master Beekeeping Program, out of the University of Nebraska, has been hosting Hap-Bee Hour get togethers for several years.  This month the speaker will be Garret Slater, a post doctoral fellow for the USDA.  He will be speaking about the importance of Drones.  https://unl.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEtf--pqTwrE9HP4aWfhkZBxn9FDULndtyv#/registration if you are interested in attending.  I would recommend getting on their email notification list as they have a lot of good speakers and topics they present in this once a month event.
Hap-Bee hour started as an opportunity to bring beekeeping questions and have them answered by Dr. Judy Wu-Smart and others.  They still offer Q & A but have added guest speakers.  As the name Hap-Bee Hour suggests be prepared to tell everyone what you are drinking.

Recipes Using Honey / Re: Chocolate Walnut Fudge

Thanks for the report, Lastfling.
I thought it was OK.  I prefer my mother's fudge recipe and make it every year.  No, it doesn't use honey.  Her unique recipe is expensive to make but it makes a 9x13 cake pan so it goes a long way so that you can share with many people.  The texture is more fluffy as apposed to fudgy.

Here was our Christmas brunch.  Christmas eggs, sausage brunch braid, cinnamon bites, and frothy orange drink.  Mom also made a beautiful centerpiece with some holly branches and my candles.
