Title: Fertilized eggs??
Post by: LindsayBrower1 on September 26, 2014, 08:18:03 pm
Maybe a long shot but here we go! Im looking for some hatching eggs and was wondering if any of you may be of help? Ideally id like black copper maran, welsummer, olive egger, ameraucana varieties, my two children and I have been searching high and low and they are fascinated.... the online websites seem outrageously expensive... Maybe I need some advice on what hatcheries are reliable, good customer service, and reasonable with pricing? Thank you  :-[

I'm too far away to help you, but around here hatching eggs are around 3.00 a dozen.

Do a search on Craig's list for eggs. Call a few of the 3.00 a dozen ones. There are many in your area. Ask them if you can get a dozen fertilized ones that haven't been refrigerated. Tell them your kids want to try and hatch some for a school project.

PS. There are chicks available in your area for 5.00 each on CL.

See if you have any local chicken auctions they will sell hatching eggs by the dozen there are for the welsumers they are a higher price. plus getting as close to home as possible insures a better hatch.less trama from shipping

If I ever retire, I may get a few chickens.  I have a shed with a six foot cyclone fence around it.  I could keep some chickens real easy.

Chickens have given me so much happiness, I couldn't imagine life without them. The only issue I have with them is where they poop! My husband isn't a fan of them pooping on the front porch  other than that they are so fun, I love their personalities. It's always a pleasure to watch them and get outside just to be around them.

Better that they poop on the front porch than over the flour barrel.

We sit on the back porch on HOT evenings because its out of the sun.. the chicken fort is in full view, door open, chickens meandering all over they yard after grasshoppers and other bugs....   Inevitably, they decide they have to RUN...   The wife gets to giggling, and it makes for an amusing time..  A chicken running is funny to see, and if they are in a real hurry, they flap while they run... The giggling intensifies..   Ocasionally, Boots will run off a cat too close to one of the chickens, and thats usually a pretty good game of whos chasing who...
