Seeds sprouting
« on: March 24, 2019, 10:17:26 am »
Yesterday, 3/23, my Stiff Goldenrod and Wingstem seeds started sprouting.  Yippee!  I got good germination, except where the dog had run through my Wingstem plantings. I planted the seeds in plastic cell paks that you see at garden centers.
In this part of the country, we hear everyone talking about Honey bees working Goldenrod in the fall.  Actually, you will never see a honey bee on any of the Goldenrod that is native around here.
Last fall I volunteered to promote honey bees at a local pollinator park.  I saw honey bees, plus other pollinators, all over their plantings of Stiff Goldenrod.  Stiff Goldenrod is more attractive than what grows around here too.
I learned that many pollinators, which includes honey bees, flock to Wingstem.  Wingstem reseeds it's self so large areas are possible.
