first and last ever custom garden hive tops

I was asked to build some custom garden hive tops after commenting on the barn on their property that was in really good shape. I'm getting paid well for them but it's a royal PITA with the gambrel roof. I like how they turned out, can't wait to see the hives completely assembled and painted. I have some green aluminum flashing to go on the top after they get it all painted that matches the metal roof on their barn.

Looks great though!  It hurt my brain thinking about the math behind the bevel work there.  That roof has enough room to be a super in and of itself.  After seeing the height on that roof, I began imagining how cool it would be to have a drawer/slide on the face of that roof that contained a tray of honey comb jars.

After I buttoned it all up I thought it would be cool to have a door on one end to store a notebook, pen, and hive tools.

The math isn't bad, all 30 and 60 degree angles and the bevels between the lengthwise roof pieces is 15 deg.

Very nice. With talent like that, you could probably get real creative and have church steeples, all kinds of interesting stuff. Might even be a market for it.  ;)

Perry, you must have missed the part about how this will be the last custom hive tops!!!! They were kind of fun to do and had to do a little thinking but I have other stuff I could have been doing. I bet I have 5-6 hours in both of these including designing and layout on the back of a piece of scrap wood.

The first one is always the hardest. Make 5 or even 10 however.............. :)

Then they cease being "custom". But yeah, the first one it always more difficult.

I like that a lot.  I'm like you and the storage idea.  Seems like you could do something with that extra space.  Probably just another place for me to lose a hive tool though. :-\

I like Perry's idea of a church steeple. I may tackle that project this summer.
