Can I lock them in?
« on: August 20, 2018, 11:00:48 pm »
We are having party in our backyard with over 30 people.  Since the bees have been little brats this summer
my concern is having that many people around them.  I do not want to be responsible for anyone getting
stung.  The bees have quieted down put every now and them one or two will come after us and we are not anywhere near the hives.  I thought that the evening before the party once they are situated back in the hives, we would close them in with mesh. I thought about putting a feeder with water  in the hive.  They will be locked in for about 24 hours.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like a reasonable plan to me. I have done the same when I moved my bees from one yard to the other but I didn't give water and they were locked in for around 12-15 hours. A wet towel would suffice I think.

les,
you can lock them in, no problem, just make sure if you are on the hot side, there is ventilation and a water feeder in the hive would work.

when you let the mesh go, stand way back......... :D :D :D

(just kidding) the bees will be fine!

have a great party and a great time!
