Invasive Pests in Europe
« on: February 16, 2016, 01:13:54 am »
I was notified of the 2015 report from the Regional Bee Inspector (Northern).

The report contains information on the spread of the Asian Hornet through France and now beyond. There is also an update on the SHB outbreak in Italy.

Just skimmed thru the first pdf file. The Asian hornet is some scary stuff the way they're spreading. Also are they still destroying hives to try to eradicate SHB?
It's not a honeybee, it's a honey bee. Whateveer!

The way the Asian Hornet is moving closer is worrying.
The nests are very big and often high in trees. If disturbed the hornets come out in mass and are very aggressive. Bee suits aren't thick enough and hazard material suits are needed.
It is a double whammy pest. Destroys hives and danger to the public.

In Italy, I think they are still burning SHB apiaries. The Italian keeps were upset about the slowness of compensation for the first round of control.
