Title: Posting pictures How-To
Post by: admin on December 21, 2013, 08:52:03 pm
It is poor practice to append pictures to a post.   Appended items are stored in the WorldwideBeekeeping server space.  Pictures can easily consume the majority of server space and cause the added expense of purchasing additional storage.   It is best to host pictures external to WorldwideBeekeeping and keep our storage for the unique post information.

The forum is set up to make external hosting of pictures as painless as possible.  Above the text input box you will find a link to Add image to post,  which will allow you to upload your picture to postimage.cc and it will automatically place the needed link code into the post box.

Clicking on link will bring up the following upload box.

Which will place the following code into the post

Notes:
1. You can also use the image BBcode to insert pictures of other externally hosted pictures,  ie.  Photobucket, flickr, etc.
1. By default, this will put a clickable thumbnail of your image in the post. (They offer the free hosting by ad revenue from clicking on the thumbnail)  If you prefer to have full size images in your post,  simply preview you post, click on the thumbnail, right click on the full sized image and select copy image URL.  Then replace the auto generated code with the image BBCode and paste the copied image URL.

I tried to print the instructions using the print icon at the bottom of the post ------ no joy.

Can you send me an e-mail with the instructions as an attachment. I can usually print attachments.

I've just posted some pics with no problem.

I couldn't get it to work when I tried a few hours ago.   Is photo.image not available some times ?

barbarian,

when you were having troubles posting a picture through post image, did you change the 'resize' option?  or do you remember what option you chose to size your images?

photo image is a free hosting service and is known to be down from time to time.  Usually trying a little later it will be back up.

When I post a picture it comes in sideways. Is there a way to edit it?

Hi Marion,

Postimage.org does not offer any editing capabilities.  You will need to rotate them locally before uploading to Postimage.

OK. They are straight when in Picasa but end up sideways when uploaded to this site. I'll have to play around with it.

I always try to take pics with the camera upright, if I turn it sideways, they show right side up in all of my apps, until I upload then they show up sideways..    Open them in Paint.. they show up right side up I just click SAVE, and from then forward they all show up right side up when posted to the forum...

"OK. They are straight when in Picasa but end up sideways when uploaded to this site. I'll have to play around with it."

marion, are you using a digital camera or smart phone to take photos?  when opened in picassa, are you just using 'preview' or actually opening them in the picassa software?

also, if you have win 7, there is a right click function that can rotate your photos 'rotate clockwise' or 'rotate counterclockwise'.

I use my phone for picture taking. I send them to picasa. They seem OK there. I save them in various folders. I retrieve them from my folders on Picasa.

I think Picasa will auto-rotate a photo when displaying it.   You might want to check the picasa settings,  there may be away to apply the auto-rotate to the picture (instead of just rotating it to display).  I would also try viewing a few of the pictures with Windows photo viewer to see the actual photo orientation.

I am having issues loading pics. Sometimes the image host option is there sometimes not, more not than is. I have been using tiny pics to host my images, is that an issue with storage space space? I don't understand the appendage talk, my appendages are attached to me and I hope to keep them that way :o

SC - I've had a few issues loading some of the posted pics lately... Not sure why.  I think the most recent of those were Efs pics showing his swarm.

I typically use PhotoBucket for my pics.  Storage space is not an issue, except maybe on Tinyurl, photobucket, or where ever.  The pictures are only linked to from here, not hosted here, so WWBK won't be a problem.  Use what you're comfortable with.

I have used photobucket in the past and I am sure there is a way around it but I don't like folks in my other albums. I am sure it is an operator error thing but I have no clue how to change it. I like tiny pics but did not know if it created an server space issue?

sc,
for photobucket, may work for others as well, if you don't want folks in your albums, this is what you do, copy the IMG code and paste it in the body of your post like this:

Code: [Select]
[URL=http://s1056.photobucket.com/user/riverbee1/media/Gold%20Hive%20Tool/152-E_hive_tool_zpscb7febea.jpg.html][IMG]http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t373/riverbee1/Gold%20Hive%20Tool/152-E_hive_tool_zpscb7febea.jpg[/IMG][/URL]
then get rid of all the parameters in front of [I MG] and behind [I MG]  so that it looks like this:

Code: [Select]
[IMG]http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t373/riverbee1/Gold%20Hive%20Tool/152-E_hive_tool_zpscb7febea.jpg[/IMG]

then you will have your photobucket pic with no access to other albums:

(https://worldwidebeekeeping.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1056.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft373%2Friverbee1%2FGold%2520Hive%2520Tool%2F152-E_hive_tool_zpscb7febea.jpg&hash=7f168e5f213bb6d8f36b2c5d26a600fa74643fd2)

hope this helps with all the appendages....... :D

if anyone sees this when they click on a photo uploaded through post image, ignore it, scroll down to see the image.  you do not need an account:

Post Image funtion keeps telling me that my file size is to large for upload.  This happens even when I select avatar size.  I thought there was two options for attachments.  But I only now see the Image Post option.

The one above the posting window is the one to use. I just posted this one from there using 640X 480. It says for message boards.

jason, you will get this notice if the file size of your photo is too large to upload/convert to a different size you choose for post image. sometimes post image can't handle a file size and the conversion.

i have received this message from time to time using photos taken with digital cameras, sometimes the color or whatever of the original has too many pixels for post image to handle and convert to the size you choose, (no matter what size you choose) so you need to reduce the size before uploading when you get that message.  i reduce the size of any photo i get the same message with using a photo program on my pc and then upload to the forum.

once you reduce the size on your pc, you should be able to upload through post image.......
these are our choices:

(https://worldwidebeekeeping.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs21.postimg.cc%2Fvx78qej8z%2Fpost_image_choices.png&hash=812e8c67b607f5d2008e31969288d7358fc6afdd) (http://postimg.cc/image/vx78qej8z/)

sometimes i choose 'do not resize my image' but for the most part i use as iddee stated for 'message boards' this is a great size.

hope this makes sense? and helps!

None of the photos I take with a digital camera will upload because of the size.  I have to open the photo with MS Paint and resize the picture.  I just resize it to 50%, rename the photo and save it with the new name (so I don't lose the full value picture), and then it will upload without a problem.

the browse window wasn't letting me select an image, it just grabbed the first one in my rather massive file folder, but then it failed to upload anyway.  That was random grab.  I have bigger problems today, sometime I will send you a pm and upload a pic.
