Last of the deeps.
« on: July 13, 2016, 06:51:07 pm »
Despite my ratched back, I was out and quickly sanded the last of the deeps so the kids could start priming and painting them.

@Perry:

The deeps look great.  You have build quality boxes.  You are a skilled, multitalented man.  Do not be ashamed to ask people to pay a "quality" price for your products.  Few of us have your abilities.  Charge accordingly for your services and honey.

I count about 60 of those deeps.  How many hives are you keeping now?

64 deeps left. My "employees" are busy today. ;) :D
I have 96 hives and somewhere around 30 nucs on the go. My intention is to "second story" the nucs for winter, I already have a half dozen that I had to add the second story to. If they get too strong I can always rob a frame here and there to boost a regular hive that needs it.
I hope to start extracting in the next few days, back willing, as I got a call from Planter's Ridge winery and they want 600 lbs. asap.

Perry, I have a lot of respect for someone as industrious as you.  :)

You deserve commendation on the way you handled motivation to get those hives painted, well done, and psychologically sound.  :)

Perry, I may have missed it, but do you cut the pieces for your supers? Or do you just assemble them.

I mill everything myself. I buy the 7/8" x 9 3/4" planks at my local mill, anything from 8 to 16 footers. The price just increased to 54 cents from 50 a foot.
I first cut into the 2 lengths I need, then cut rabbet joint on 3 sides of the shorter "end" pieces (the third is the frame rest) and then glue and screw. Once done that I cut in my hand holds using a moulding head cutter, takes a few seconds per hand hold. A quick sand and that's it.
Then I pass off the painting (I hate painting).

Way too tidy is right.. WHO was it that accused ME of being organized??

   And.. Screws! you use screws to assemble your hives?  MAN you have a lot of time in those!  Lots of respect for all that work.. 1 1/4 inch narrow crown staples go in faster for me!!   ;D
