I was sure the punch line would be that, after all the assurances of the management,  they demanded that you pay for the room.  :o
So, at least it really was free.
Now comes the question, was it really worth it?  :-\\

Maybe you should have bought a toilet seat and some batteries at Walmart and asked them to reimburse you

Great question.
Some day I will laugh about this.  I guess it is the price to pay for a good story?  It is also the price you pay when you are too tired to pack up and go to another motel.  The motel provided us with a buffet line and the food was VERY GOOD.  That in my stomach drained me of all of my energy.
Les, I did think about buying a toilet seat at Walmart!  I thought it probably wouldn't fit and I might get pinched or something.  The towels worked and it was of no risk to me as they weren't my towels!

Sure enough, in my inbox I found an email entitled, "How was your stay with us?"  I told all, rated appropriately and so forth.  The next day there was a form email from the manager apologizing and wishing me a good day.
I didn't expect compensation.  After all, there was no charge for the room!  But maybe something more than a form letter.  I had hoped to let them know that perhaps they should instruct their staff to offer to call other motel's in the area to see if they have vacancies? That would have been nice.

So is it true, B12?  "the best things in life are free?"

Maybe that's the Best Western things in life are free.

Well, I was warned about the door lock.  Everything else was an unexpected occurrence!

Got friends going to the New Braunfels Worst Fest this weekend.

Wonder why they don’t have a Best Fest?

And they can’t even spell it right!

Experience similar to that when I was in California.. headed to Knotts Berry Farm for the weekend with  the X wife and another couple...   (Wasn't X at the time)  got the room and unlocked the door... the room had not been cleaned???   Was told that they were short on help we would have to deal with it until the next day?   Nope, not sleeping in a bed someone else had used the night before...   My buddy Steve was feeling quite ill from the copious amount of rum he drank the night before (Pirate in training)  While I got our money back, he ran to the bathroom... Lady was cleaning it, told him he couldn't use it, so he barfed on the floor THEN we headed down the road to a Super 8...    I felt the barf was justified...

If they had spent a little money ahead of time and done the repairs, they could have charged you for the room and had the repairs paid for. They should fire both the manager and maintenance man.

Were I the manager, I would have explained the overbooking mistake, picked up the phone and called the competition with in walking distance (Super 8), tell the competition to expect me and then offer me a free meal in their restaurant.  I would have said something like, "We all make mistakes."  and moved on.
The desk clerk called the maintenance man and didn't any action.  Something wrong with this situation.
The Worst Western is located in a college town.  I sure wouldn't want any bad reviews out there that visiting parents could read.

LOL...

Warm weather is coming!  A few more days and the maple sap will be played out, and I can spend two or three days doing... NOTHING!  THEN, it will be time to start looking into the bees and see what I have to work with this year!  Looking forward to that!
