Hey Jen!  I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no.  Bees REMOVE water from nectar to make honey.  But then, they do need water to survive so I guess if they didn't have any water they would die and therefore not be able to make honey, so yes, they need water to make honey. 8)  Just messin around.  I don't think they do, as in they don't use water as an additive to make honey.  Ted

Don't know that answer. But I do know when in a flow me and wifey can't keep bird baths full .

They remove water from nectar to make honey. Honey is too dense for them to eat, so they add water to honey before consuming. Their biggest use of water is air conditioning.
They evaporate water to cool the air and control the temp.
