When down to remove all extra honey supers and pull out the beetle traps.  Found hole thru the bottom board.  Anyone else have this happen??

mohawkny,  I have never seen that on bottom boards before.  It looks like you can see daylight through those holes.  Am I right?  Carpenter bees will make 1/4 inch holes in wood to lay eggs in.  They prefer bare wood but will make holes in stained wood too.  Painting wood will deter them from making holes.  I don't know if those holes were made by Carpenter bees, but maybe a bee with similar behavior.

Yes, holes all the way thru.  Wood bees here make hole 2 to 3 inches deep.  They are always drilling into the horse barn but this is a first on the hives.
