Title: Queen not laying yet.
Post by: Bee Commander on April 30, 2016, 09:56:03 am
Have a Nuc I started 1st week of April with a cell. Its been 20 days and this queen is not laying yet. Not typical of the results I've had with all my other queens. To date, queens that are mated here are well underway by 14 days and at 20 have 2-3 frames solid. Should I get rid of this queen or give her some more time. She's a little runty compared to most of mine so far.

Thanks in advance.

That would be day 36 from egg. I haven't personally seen one start laying after 35, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I would probably wait until the next batch of cells are ready and replace her then.

Checked her yesterday and she's laying! Kinda of a weird year here in Ca we're actually getting rain storms this spring.

Glad she's laying.
The rule of thumb is from the day the egg is layed till you have a laying queen with brood is 29 days.
