I own this book, and it's great.  All of Seeley's books are, but I use this all the time for reference, and it's a pretty good cover to cover read too.

Thomas Seeley...   I read some research he was doing about how bees adapt, and how they are adapting to Mites. I sent him an email, aned he replied, and then we sent emails back and forth for about six months discussing it. We both decided that in the shor term, the bees, that we had domesticated, and worked so long and hard to keep from being swarmy, would probably adapt first, by swarming more...  I admit I was astonished someone as educated as he is would have a conversation with me about somethinghe was working on. Needless to say...  a LOT of respect was gained.
I also sent a few emails back and forth to Marla Spivak, talking about her mite resistant bees... She also had no issue discussing it with me. Beekeepers tend to be good people I think!
